Phone in Water? Do These 5 Things First

1. Turn it off immediately

Water plus power is what destroys a board. Do not check whether it still works, just hold the power button and switch it off.

2. Do not charge it

Pushing current through a wet charging port is the single fastest way to kill the phone for good.

3. Remove what you can

Case, SIM tray, memory card. Dry the outside with a soft cloth and keep the ports facing down.

4. Skip the rice

Rice does almost nothing for moisture already inside the phone, and rice dust in the ports makes the cleaning job harder.

5. Bring it in the same day

Corrosion starts within hours. A proper ultrasonic cleaning within the first day is the difference between a working phone and a board replacement.
