- 4TB capacity for OEM and cloud deployments as well as traditional IT systems
- Up to 255 MB/s sustained transfer rate
- Advanced 4Kn and 512e format
- MTBF of 2 million hours
- Self-encrypting drive options
Economical capacity and fast data access: key requirements for hard disk drives in the data center
IT managers must offer layers of storage by implementing purpose-built solutions to meet on-premises, off-premises and cloud storage requirements. Helium-filled drives provide the highest capacity, while air-filled drives offer significant benefits. Lower TCA (total cost of acquisition), legacy options and higher access density (IOP/TB) make them an excellent choice for maintaining desired performance levels while allowing customers to tailor their budget to their needs.
Ultrastar DC HC300 Series for traditional data centers
The Ultrastar DC HC300 series helps meet data center requirements by providing 4TB to 10TB of capacity while improving performance over previous generations. They are designed for a variety of applications, including traditional storage arrays, rack-mounted storage enclosures and distributed server-based storage systems, as well as distributed and scalable computing, including block and file-based storage architectures. They are offered with 7200 RPM and SATA 6 Gb/s or SAS 12 Gb/s interfaces in Advanced Format 41kn and 512e formats. A 572n option is also available on 4 TB models to support legacy systems with native 512-byte block sizes.
Innovative technology delivers performance and efficiency for traditional and legacy systems
TheUltrastar DC HC300 Series drives are based on a proven and cost-effective airline design with conventional magnetic recording (CMR) technology in a 3.5-inch form factor. These drives use common hardware and firmware, while featuring a second-generation two-stage micro-actuator
that improves head positioning accuracy for better drive performance. The increase in write performance is also supported by Western Digital's Media Cache architecture, a disk-based caching technology that provides a large cache area for improved reliability and data integrity. Finally, the addition of flash-based non-volatile cache (NVC) on both SATA and SAS models helps improve write performance.
Data security through quality and reliability
Compliance and privacy requirements drive the need for increased data security. The Ultrastar DC HC300 series offers security and encryption options to help protect data from unauthorized use, including SED models in both SATA and SAS configurations. A version with SED-FIPS validation is available in SAS configurations. The Ultrastar DC HC300 series extends Western Digital's long tradition of reliability leadership with an MTBF of 2 million hours and workloads up to 550 TB per year.

Higher capacity and lower maintenance costs
To meet the growing demand for high capacity, Western Digital introduces the Ultrastar® DC HC530 14TB hard drive. Built using HelioSeal technology, the industry's only fifth-generation helium platform and the foundation for our high-capacity DC HC500 series, the Ultrastar DC HC530 is designed for public and private cloud environments where storage density, Watts/TB and cost/TB are critical parameters in creating the most cost-effective infrastructure.
HelioSeal technology helps meet the challenges of next-generation data centers
HelioSeal technology enables the Ultrastar DC HC530 drive to have one of the lowest power profiles in the industry, helping data center architects meet green goals and requirements. Designed to support workloads up to 550TB per year, the Ultrastar DC HC530 is based on conventional magnetic recording (CMR) technology for ease of installation in enterprise and cloud data centers.
Reliability and efficiency thanks to modern solutions
Features such as TDMR (two-dimensional magnetic recording) technology and a third-generation two-stage micro-actuator work together to increase head positioning accuracy and deliver improved performance, data integrity and overall drive reliability, which is critical in multi-drive environments where operational vibration is a concern. A choice of SATA 6Gb/s or SAS 12Gb/s interfaces enables easy integration into high-performance data centers.
Data persistence and data security features to support compliance with privacy regulations and requirements
With massive capacity and unmatched reliability, Ultrastar DC HC530 is ideal for object storage deployments. Compliance and privacy requirements drive the need for increased data security. Ultrastar DC HC530 offers security and encryption options to help protect data from unauthorized use on both SATA and SAS models.
